It seems as though the door has been opened in Venezuela for current presidente' Chavez to run for a 3rd term.....and a 4th......and a 5th........and you get the point. This weekend the country voted on a referendum to do away with term limits. Apparently 54% of the country voted in favor of it. As one Venezuelan put it:
"People voting 'yes' said Chavez has given poor Venezuelans cheap food, free education and quality health care, and empowered them with a discourse of class struggle after decades of U.S.-backed governments that favored the rich. "
That sounds vaguely familiar..............hmmmmmm.....where have I heard that recently????????
DID YOU KNOW?
Representative Jose Serrano (D) has introduced a bill in the House to abolish the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits presidents to two consecutive terms or ten years in office. It's called H.J.Res.5 if you want to check it out.
Luckily it didn't pass......maybe try again in a few months.....you never know!
